The delay in signing RB Benson is offset by the opportunity to develop a deeper backfield. Rookie running backs can contribute sooner than a QB or Defensive player. The RB position is instinctive. Benson will be playing and contributing from the 6th game on.
Bears ticked with top pick: "General manager Jerry Angelo said Thursday that the team has made its final offer to the first-round draft pick and soon will begin reducing it because of the diminished value they say the running back will have this season now that he has missed 26 days of training camp. Benson is the only unsigned first-round pick, and the organization apparently has lost its patience."
